CPS Test – How Fast Can You Click?

CPS stands for clicks per second — your click rate, i.e. the number of times you can click your mouse in one second. Our free CPS test (also called a click speed test or mouse click speed test) measures it instantly: pick a time limit, hammer the click counter pad below as fast as you can, and get your CPS score with a skill rank. No signup, no download — it works on desktop and mobile, right in your browser.

Gamers use the click speed test to benchmark their clicking speed for Minecraft PvP, FPS games and rhythm games. But anyone can try it: all you need is a mouse (or a finger on mobile) and a few seconds.

How to take the CPS test

  1. Choose your duration — 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. The 5-second test is the community standard: long enough to smooth out lucky bursts, short enough to stay sharp.
  2. Click the pad once to start the timer.
  3. Click as fast as you can until the time runs out. Your live CPS shows while you click.
  4. Check your result — total clicks, CPS score and your rank from Turtle Pace to Elite. Your best score is saved, and you can copy it or share it to challenge friends.

Tips for your best score: relax your wrist (tension kills finger speed), click from the finger not the whole arm, hover just above the button, and do one warm-up round first — most people score higher on their second attempt.

Popular click test variations

The classic CPS test isn’t the only way to measure your speed. Related click tests players use:

  • Kohi click test — the click test from the Kohi Minecraft server, popular with PvP players as a benchmark before fights.
  • Spacebar counter / spacebar test — measures how fast you can hit the spacebar instead of the mouse button; great for testing keyboard hand speed.
  • Mobile tap test — same idea, optimized for touchscreen tapping with your finger.
  • Reaction time test — different skill (how fast you react, not how fast you repeat), but often trained alongside CPS.

Each tests a slightly different skill. Master the standard CPS test first, then try the variations to find your strongest style.

CPS score chart: what is a good CPS?

Scores depend on test length — short bursts always read higher. Find your average click speed level in the chart for your duration:

Level 1 second 5 seconds 10 seconds
Beginnerunder 5under 4under 4
Average5–74–64–6
Good7–96–86–7.5
Fast9–128–107.5–9
Pro12–1510–139–12
Elite15+13+12+

Most casual users land between 4 and 7 CPS on the 5-second test. Competitive Minecraft players usually sit at 8–12 CPS, and anything above 13 puts you in elite territory.

Clicking techniques compared

Not all clicks are equal. Your technique changes your score more than anything else:

Technique Typical CPS Difficulty Best for
Regular clicking4–7EasyEveryone, most accurate
Butterfly clicking9–14MediumMinecraft PvP, burst clicking
Jitter clicking10–15HardExperienced players (tiring)
Drag clicking15–30+HardBurst clicks, needs the right mouse

1. Regular clicking

One finger (usually the index) on the button. The most accurate method and the best starting point. Relax your hand, hover slightly above the button, and practice in short 5-second bursts to build clicking speed without strain.

2. Butterfly clicking

Two fingers — index and middle — alternating on the same button. This can nearly double your click rate versus regular clicking. It feels awkward at first: practice the alternating rhythm slowly, then build speed. A favorite for Minecraft PvP.

3. Jitter clicking

Tense your forearm to create a fast vibration that drives your finger up and down. Very fast, but exhausting and hard on the wrist — practice in short sessions, stretch afterwards, and stop if anything hurts.

4. Drag clicking

Drag your finger across the button so friction registers a burst of clicks. Needs a mouse whose switches support it (and slightly moist skin helps). Unmatched for short bursts, less useful for sustained clicking.

Does your mouse affect your CPS?

Yes — hardware is the hidden half of your score:

  • Switch type: light optical or mechanical switches register faster than stiff office-mouse switches.
  • Polling rate: a 1000Hz mouse reports to your PC 1000 times per second, so no click gets lost.
  • Debounce time: lower debounce = the switch resets faster between clicks.
  • Weight and shape: a light mouse you can grip comfortably lets your finger move freely.

You don’t need an expensive mouse to start — but if your scores plateau, the mouse is the first upgrade to consider.

CPS test for Minecraft PvP

Minecraft PvP is where CPS matters most: more clicks per second means more registered hits. Most competitive players aim for 8+ CPS with butterfly or jitter clicking, and servers like Hypixel and Badlion communities treat CPS as a core stat. But CPS is only one skill — aim, movement, timing and game sense decide fights just as much. Use this test to track your click speed over weeks of practice and watch the number climb.

Frequently asked questions

What does CPS stand for?
CPS stands for clicks per second: how many times you can click a mouse (or tap a screen) in one second.

How is CPS calculated?
Total clicks divided by test seconds. Example: 45 clicks in a 5-second test = 9 CPS.

What is a good CPS score?
On the standard 5-second test: 4–6 is average, 6–8 is good, 8–10 is fast, 10–13 is pro, and 13+ is elite.

Which test duration should I choose?
5 seconds is the most common benchmark. Use 1 second for pure burst speed, 10–60 seconds to test stamina and consistency.

How can I increase my CPS?
Practice daily in short sessions, relax your wrist, try butterfly clicking once regular clicking plateaus, and use a responsive gaming mouse.

Is jitter clicking safe?
It strains the wrist and forearm. Keep sessions short, stretch, and stop immediately if you feel pain. Younger players should be extra careful.

Does CPS matter in Minecraft?
Yes for PvP — higher CPS registers hits faster. But aim, movement and strategy matter equally. Don’t sacrifice accuracy for raw speed.

Can I do the CPS test on mobile?
Yes. Tap the pad with your finger. Touch scores usually read slightly lower than mouse scores.

Can I use the spacebar instead of the mouse?
You can — that’s called a spacebar test. It measures keyboard hand speed rather than mouse clicking speed, so scores aren’t directly comparable.

What is the Kohi click test?
The click test from the Kohi Minecraft server, widely used by PvP players as a pre-fight benchmark. It works the same way: click as fast as you can in a set time.

Are autoclickers allowed?
No — autoclickers are cheating. They generate fake clicks no human could match, and most servers and tests (including ours) ignore or flag inhumanly perfect click patterns. Real improvement comes from practice.

CPS test vs reaction time test — what’s the difference?
A CPS test measures repetition speed (how many clicks per second); a reaction time test measures how quickly you respond to a stimulus. Both matter for gaming, but they train different reflexes.

What is the highest CPS ever recorded?
There is no official world record, but skilled drag-clickers have exceeded 30 CPS in short bursts. Sustained 15+ CPS is already elite.

Is this CPS test free?
Yes — completely free, unlimited attempts, no account needed.
